The widely adopted data protocol in the realm of lighting equipment is DMX-512. While it has enjoyed considerable success, it does come with a few limitations. Notably, it restricts the maximum number of connected devices to 32, all of which must be arranged in a bus-topology configuration, with a cable passing through each device. Additionally, the length of a DMX cable should not exceed 300 meters.
Addressing these inconveniences, the RdmSplitter from Visual Productions serves as an effective solution. This splitter takes a DMX signal and redistributes it through its 6 DMX output ports, enabling a more efficient star-topology cable layout. Each output port has the capacity to drive an additional 32 devices. Furthermore, the splitter can also serve as a signal booster, as each port supports another 300-meter long connection.
Notably, the RdmSplitter incorporates RDM compatibility, a protocol that facilitates two-way communication within a DMX infrastructure. RDM offers the advantages of automatic addressing and enables fixtures to provide real-time status information back to the lighting controller.
