The Microtech Gefell PM 860 cardioid condenser studio microphone is an end-address microphone that is designed as a vocal performance microphone with good handling noise rejection and features a well-balanced frequency response in the free field as well as in the diffuse field and the distinct cardioid characteristics help create a life-like recording of any sound source with good selectivity. The influence of interference sources such as inherent noise, windnoise and solid-borne sound is reduced by suitable precautions. The microphone capsule and microphone amplifier within the PM 860 are adjusted to optimum transmission properties.
The PM 860 circuitry includes a FET input stage, an integrated circuit, AC/DC converter circuit for the generation of the polarization voltage and the output transformer. There are two switches on the PM 860, the first offers a 10 dB pre-attenuation pad for very high sound pressure levels. The second switch provides a high-rolling off bass frequencies at 60 Hz and below. These two switches are found at the lower end of the microphone body.
The PM 860 is equipped with a 3-pin XLR connector and requires 48 V phantom power, which is internationally standardized as P 48 in DIN 45596 and IEC 268-15.
