Many people have replaced a guitar when the real problem was corrosion or loose wire in the battery holder. Preamps do go bad but not as often as thought. Definitely worth trying a 20$ replacement part before setting aside an 800$ guitar or adapting another preamp. Full compass often has essential parts like these no one else cares to provide.
