With Blackmagic Design's Studio Fiber Converter (Part# CINEURSANWFRSTUD) you can connect to remote cameras up to 6561 feet (2 km) away with multiple channels of video, talkback, control and power all over a single SMPTE fiber cable. Whether you're in studio or outside in a broadcast truck, your Studio Fiber Converter converts SDI video, audio, and remote camera control connections into a single optical fiber cable, which connects to a Blackmagic Camera Fiber Converter attached to a remote camera.
All video and data are transmitted using standard IP for extremely low latency broadcast quality video. You get 12G-SDI for an HD or Ultra HD camera feed and 3 independent HD return feeds, along with standard connections for camera control, PTZ, two dual channel talkback intercoms, tracker talkback, tally and a 5 inch LCD screen for monitoring camera and return feeds. The Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter also provides power for your remote cameras and accessories.
The cable used between the camera and studio converters is a standard SMPTE 311M hybrid electrical and fiber optic cable with a standard SMPTE 304 connector on each end. The cable features a 2 way fiber pair, data pair and power pair, along with a central strength member that gives it the needed durability for continuous use.
The Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter provides an industry standard 200 volts of power to the camera converter for both the camera and its accessories. High voltages to the SMPTE cable are not enabled until the converter ensures that all safety checks have been completed. This means Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter is compliant with SMPTE fiber standards, making it incredibly safe to operate.
NOTE: Blackmagic does not include IEC cables on this product. We recommend also buying a C2G 03133, a 6’ IEC universal power cable.

These fiber converters are ok.... weve not had major issues with them in a year's time. However, they are quirky. We have to reboot them often as they will stop sending return signal to the camera. A power cycle seems to fix it most times. Another big deal is the esthetic of Fiber cables plugging in front. You could mount them backwards, but then all your SDI is on the front. Seems like a dumb design.
