Product Overview

The Six Channel DMX512 Controlled Relay Pack receives DMX512 signals and uses the levels to control dry contact relays. A relay closes when its level exceeds 60% and opens when the level drops below 40%. The wiring ensures that when a relay is closed, the AC input line voltage is switched to the AC output (only the hot side is switched). The DMX6REL15A-JBOX is designed for switching line voltage loads up to 15 amps and uses 30 amp relays. The DMX6REL30A-JBOX is similar to the DMX6REL15A-JBOX but uses two 120 VAC inputs: one for relays 1 to 3 and another for relays 4 to 6. Custom configurations with different trip points, inverted action, momentary action, and DMX loss behavior are available upon request. Contact DFD for more details. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the DMX6REL15A-JBOX or DMX6REL30A-JBOX. Service should be performed by qualified personnel. Always turn off power before removing the cover. Do not operate the unit with the cover removed.

Doug Fleenor Design Relay Packs utilize dry contact air-gap relays, which have both advantages and disadvantages compared to solid-state relays found in dimmer packs. While solid-state relays can switch rapidly without wear, they generate heat and leak current even when off. In contrast, air-gap relays do not require cooling and do not leak current, but their mechanical nature limits their lifespan. Our relay packs are ideal for applications where a true off condition (no voltage, no current) is required and should not be used for rapid switching, such as in chase lights. Suitable applications include fog machines, moving light fixtures, motorized disco effects, strobe lights, and fans.
