Product Overview
The IED 524 digital microphone station is a 4-button device designed for initiating audio/visual announcements, messages, and pages within GLOBALCOM® and vACS Series Announcement Control Systems. This network appliance, with its unique IP address, simplifies installation and configuration. It includes four zone group selection buttons and a push-to-talk button on the hand-held microphone.
The 524 uses a single Ethernet interface for audio and control data, and it is fully compatible with the IEEE 802.3af standard for Power over Ethernet (PoE). It is powered directly from any standard PoE switch, leveraging its onboard 32-bit processor for input management, Ethernet interface, audio signal processing, and self-test diagnostics.
All IED LAN-based GLOBALCOM® components, including the 524, are optimized for a standard 100 Mbps Ethernet LAN, utilizing off-the-shelf switches and structured CAT5e or better cabling. The 524 employs CobraNet® technology.

- The 524 digital microphone station features four configurable selection buttons. These buttons can be set up using the IED Enterprise or vACS Console software to trigger.
- A live page to a designated zone group
- A recorded page to a designated zone group
- Permanent message playback to a designated zone group (e.g., customer reminders or emergency messages)
- Network Requirements
- Utilizing CobraNet® technology from Cirrus Logic®, the 524 ensures live audio with minimal latency for uninterrupted performance. Operating on Layer 2 (MAC Layer) of the OSI Model, it requires full duplex 100 Mbps Ethernet auto-negotiation. VLANs, Quality of Service (QoS), and prioritization configurations may be necessary for managing network traffic effectively.
