The Fredenstein F602 500-Series Tube Compressor utilizes the original 6386LGP double triode tube found in vintage designs like Gates, Fairchild, and GE, ensuring a classic smoothness in its short signal path. Featuring an innovative transformer-less input circuit for clarity and a large Lundahl output transformer for added character, the F602 incorporates DSP technology to monitor and optimize the tube's performance continuously.
Controls include Threshold, Ratio (2:1 to 20:1), Make-up Gain, Mix (Blend), Attack (250 uS to 15.5 mS), and Release (12 mS to 5 S), with additional buttons for Bypass (true hard bypass), Hard Knee / Soft Knee, Link (up to 10 units), and Meter Mode (VU or Gain Reduction). The LINK switch also serves as a standby, preserving tube life when the compressor is inactive while the rack remains powered.
Notably, the F602 achieves exceptionally fast attack and release times, managed by its DSP to eliminate thumps typically associated with rapid gain reduction changes. The MIX control allows for variable blending between compressed and uncompressed signals, ideal for preserving transients while boosting quieter elements.
Specifications highlight low distortion, wide frequency response, and minimal noise, surpassing units at higher price points. With robust design features including high current capability and low output impedance, it effortlessly drives complex loads without compromising sound quality.
Engineered with a vacuum tube, DSP, MCU control, digital attenuators, high voltage regulators, Lundahl transformer, discrete line driver, and premium analog components, the F602 is built for reliability and professional use. Suitable for buss compression, mastering, or tubular tracking in series, it stands out as a versatile and high-performance addition to any studio setup.
Please note, due to its 8W power consumption, compatibility with lunch-boxes and racks may vary; Fredenstein products are recommended for optimal performance. Designed by a German-American team and manufactured in Taiwan, the F602 exemplifies precision engineering and durability in audio equipment.
