The DPA 2012 Compact Cardioid Microphone is a highly versatile microphone that excels in covering a wide range of close-miking needs on the live stage. This robust and reliable condenser microphone is ideal for single instrument pickup, particularly for instruments in the high-frequency range. It features a superior transient response that outperforms any dynamic microphone, enabling it to capture even the most delicate sounds with remarkable accuracy. The 2012 is engineered to handle both extremely high SPLs and very delicate sounds. With a max SPL, peak before clipping of 156 dB, this microphone is suitable for many different instruments - drums, guitars, horns, and more.
Constructed to withstand rough handling in live sound applications, the mic features a thicker, more robust body construction made of brass (known for its corrosion resistance and tolerance against metal fatigue). The mic handle and grille surfaces are also treated with a protective black chrome finish, ensuring your equipment ages gracefully for its entire lifespan. The 2012 boasts a wide cardioid capsule with DPA's renowned flat off-axis response, giving the flexibility of high gain-before-feedback and effectively managing bleed from other instruments at close proximity. This microphone picks up off-axis sounds in a natural and attenuated manner, and as with all other DPA microphones, the 2012 delivers a pure and transparent sound quality that is unrivaled.

This microphone is a wonderful alternative to the already well-established and brilliant 2011. It is more affordable, so anyone in need of a large quantity of small-diaphragm microphones can confidently choose this option. It performs brilliantly on snare drums, hi-hats, as well as French horns, trumpets, or trombones. I had the opportunity to test it in action on jazz projects, pop drum setups, and orchestral ensembles. It's fantastic, and I highly recommend it.
