Intended for the working professional, the Sumire Prime CN-E14mm T3.1 FP X lens is an all-new class of lens for an all-new look from Canon. Sumire Prime offers a compact, consistent lens design and proven Canon lens elements for performance and reliability in professional shooting environments. Canon’s line of cinema prime lenses named Sumire Prime (pronounced “Soo-mee-ray”) – are associated with the beauty of a flower whose petals are open. This is the inspiration behind a unique optical design that introduces a nuanced look as the lens aperture approaches its maximum setting – subtly modifying the textural renderings of the human facial close-up.

Digital technologies, combined with the ever-increasing march to higher resolutions, higher dynamic ranges and wider color gamuts, are challenging producers, directors and directors of photography to harness these imaging enhancements to reproduce a spectrum of imagery that reflects broad ranging production goals. Canon’s Sumire Prime lens series was specifically designed to address this challenging landscape.

Sumire Primes feature bright T-stops, reduced focus breathing and uniform color balance across the focal range of the seven lenses – all contributing to artistically pleasing images. The 11-bladed iris provides circular and natural bokeh while diffusing the light rays from intense highlights. In combination with the unique Sumire look at wider aperture settings, Canon offers the cinematographer a broader range of visual expression.

The Sumire Prime CN-E14mm T3.1 FP X lens has markings on angled surfaces on both sides of the barrel, making it easy to read focus and aperture settings from behind or from either side of the camera. Focus markings can even be switched from standard labeling to metric. The control rings are engineered to maintain the proper amount of resistance with consistent operating torque. It also features an innovative glass construction that counteracts barrel expansion and contraction to avoid temperature induced marking discrepancies.

The Sumire Prime Lens series are all compatible with the complete lineup of Canon Cinema EOS full-frame and Super 35mm 4K cameras, including the EOS C700 FF, EOS C300 Mark II and EOS C200. In addition to Canon cameras, these lenses are also compatible with the latest full-frame and Super 35mm PL-mount cameras from leading manufacturers.
