Sumire (pronounced “Soo-mee-ray” in Japanese) is associated with a floral gentleness and beauty and is the inspiration behind Canon's CN-E35mm T1.5 FP X Sumire Prime lens. Like the petals of a flower, the Sumire lenses are most dynamic when fully open. A unique optical design introduces a nuanced look as the lens aperture approaches its maximum setting – subtly modifying the textural renderings of the human facial close-up. It also smooths the transition to the fall-off portions of the scene resulting in a pleasing bokeh. This combination adds emotional expressiveness to a memorable scene with greater warmth and depth of field.
This all-new class of lenses feature an 11-blade aperture diaphram for beautiful background blur and innovative glass construction that counteracts barrel expansion and contraction to avoid temperature induced marking discrepancies. The use of an odd number of iris blades also helps to diffuse light rays and produce what is generally considered a more sought after, artistically pleasing and cinematic look with warmer colors. The lenses also achieves uniform color balance throughout the lineup, helping to reduce the need for post grading, even when a production is frequently changing lenses.
Intended for the working professional, the Sumire Prime CN-E35mm T1.5 FP X lens has markings on angled surfaces on both sides of the barrel, making it easy to read focus and aperture settings from behind or from either side of the camera. Focus markings can even be switched from standard labeling to metric. The control rings are engineered to maintain the proper amount of resistance with consistent operating torque.
Sharing the same gear position, front diameter and rotation angle, the Sumire lenses' compatibility with third-party accessories allows crews to easily change lenses without making adjustments to the rig setup. The Sumire Prime Lenses are compatible with the complete lineup of Canon Cinema EOS full-frame and Super 35mm 4K cameras, including the EOS C700 FF, EOS C300 Mark II and EOS C200. In addition to Canon cameras, the new lenses are also compatible with the latest full-frame and Super 35mm PL-mount cameras from leading manufacturers.
